When Anand's health begins to suffer due to his alcoholism, Geetha cares for him and makes him value his life once more. Due to years of lavish living and squandering away of his wealth, Anand becomes bankrupt. He also finds out that Selvam, whom he had totally trusted, has betrayed him and stolen from him. Will Anand lose his faith in humanity once more and drown in depression? Can Geetha succeed in spurring him on and ensure that he sets things right with Selvam? Trivia:
This movie was the 50th directorial venture by S. P. Muthuraman which had lead the Tamil production house, AVM Productions, to commemorate their achievement by making a film with him.

Along with this movie, the period also saw AVM Productions combine with Kamal Haasan four times in quick succession - Sagalakala Vallavan, Thoongadhey Thambi Thoongadhey and Per Sollum Pillai.

The two main characters in this movie are inspired by the 1931 movie City Lights, as Kamal Haasan is an ardent fan of Charlie Chaplin and draws a lot of inspiration from his movies.
