The Place Beyond The Pines (2013)

A daredevil resorts to robbing banks to support his newborn son and lover. It is a decision that proves to have major consequences. Luke is a daredevil motorcycle rider. His former lover, Romina walks into his life again and Luke finds out that they have a baby son. Sincere to a fault, he quits his act and embarks on a tag team bank robbery spree with grimy backwoods mechanic Robin. All of this, so he can buy stuff for his baby and hand Romina wads of dollar bills. Although never too far from his dirt bike, he loves his role as father and provider.

The method used by Luke (Ryan Gosling) and Robin (Ben Mendelsohn) to rob the banks was the actual method "Friday Night Robber" Carl Gugasian successfully used for over thirty years.
Director and Co-writer Derek Cianfrance has said that he would not have made this film without Bradley Cooper cast as Avery Cross. He even drove five hours to Montreal, Quebec to meet with Cooper in person to convince him to take the role. Cianfrance says he did write the role for Cooper, "a guy who's paraded around as a hero, but inside feels corrupted."
Most of the filming was done on location in Schenectady, New York. The film's title comes from the name of the city of Schenectady, which is the Mohawk word for "beyond the pine plains."
