Trivia:
This film is adapted from Nikos Kazantzakis' controversial 1955 novel of the same name.

Willem Dafoe who plays Jesus, couldn't see for three days, because he got too many eye drops to dilate the pupils of his eyes in bright sunlight to achieve a superhuman effect.

Martin Scorsese had wanted to make a film version on the life of Jesus Christ ever since his childhood.
