Pakistan-born comedian and cab driver Kumail Nanjiani is instantly attracted towards American student Emily Gordon whom he meets at a bar and develops a romantic relationship with. While his parents want him to be a responsible Muslim and marry a Pakistani, Kumail tries to deal with the conflicts in his own relationships, Emily's sudden illness and work to convince her parents to accept their relationship.
