Thanga Manasukkaran (1992)

Murugesh/Murugan, a musician, travels to a village with his music troupe. Chellakilli, the village belle, had been waiting for the love of her life, Murugan, to return while her cousin Duraipandi harassed her to marry him. Murugesh finally reveals that he was Murugan, her long lost love, and admits to why he had been missing. Chellakilli's father wanted to marry her off to Murugan, but her aunt wanted her to marry Duraipandi. Chellakilli's aunt gets Murugan beaten up by thugs and kicked out of the village. Murugan changes his name to Murugesh and becomes a musician, all the while unable to forget his love. He finally decides to return to his village and win her back. When her aunt and Duraipandi find out about Murugan's return, they inform her father that she was in love with someone named Murugesh, without giving him the real story. He gets upset and brings a priest to help her forget her love, which she does. Murugan then sets out to win her love and her father's approval back.
