In a pristine village, an elderly medicine woman known fondly as Ajji lives with her two grandchildren, Savitri and Simha, whom she brings them up with a lot of love and care. When a wealthy landowner, Sowcar's life is threatened by snakebite, the Ajji treats him.
However, in a tragic twist, Ajji passes away after a fall, but not before she takes a promise from Savitri to try her best to ensure that Simha becomes highly educated and successful. Savitri also promises Ajji never to accept help from anyone, especially not Venkanna, an evil man.
