Sandhyakku Virinja Poovu (1982)

Evocative and provocative, this multi-layered social drama traces the twists and turns in the life of Dr. Baladevi (Seema), a sincere and talented gynecologist. She lost her parents at a young age and is deeply attached to her only brother Thilakan (Shankar). In a happy turn of events, Thilakan gets a rare and prestigious opportunity to pursue higher studies in the USA. Consequently, Thilakan requests his sister to take on the role of a guardian and protector for his girlfriend, Subhashini. Then, tragedy strikes when Subhashini informs Baladevi that she was raped by a man and is pregnant. She wants Baladevi to abort her child. However, she dies during the MTP surgery and Baladevi finds herself accused of medical malpractice and a legal case is filed in the court to investigate the cause of Subhashini's untimely demise and punish Dr Baladevi, if found guilty. The case is filed by Subhashini's cousin Ramu (Mohanlal), who also tries to blackmail Baladevi for money. Baladevi hires a talented lawyer Jeyamohan (Mammootty) to help her prove her innocence in the case, irrespective of his reputation for being a ladies' man. Will the wily lawyer succeed in proving Dr Baladevi's innocence? How will the relationship between Baladevi and Jeyamohan evolve?
