Trivia:
Like that of Naya Daur (1957), this story was controversial and had no takers, until B.R. Chopra took it on and made it into a hit film.

Vyjayanthimala was completely won over by the script and expressed her acceptance of the role by giving B.R. Chopra a huge tray full of coins.

The first choice for the lead role of Champa bai was Nimmi, but she rejected the offer, not wanting to play the role of a prostitute. This decision was instrumental in her career decline by the late 1950s.

B.R. Chopra's young brother Yash Chopra was an assistant director for this film.
