'Raja Hindustani' is the quintessential tale of the problems that arise when a rich girl marries a poor boy. Mr. Sehgal (Suresh Oberoi), an exceptionally wealthy businessman, lives with his daughter, Aarti (Karisma Kapoor), and his second-wife Shalini (Archana Puran Singh) in a palatial home. Aarti wishes to go for a vacation at a small hill station named Palankhet where her parents had met for the first time. Once there, she meets a poor orphan, Raja Hindustani (Aamir Khan), who becomes her guide and taxi driver. Almost instantaneously sparks fly, they fall head over heels in love with each other, and get married without Mr. Sehgal's blessings. When Mr. Sehgal comes to know of this hasty wedding, he is initially furious, but eventually forgives his daughter, and invites both newlyweds to his palatial home. However, what he is completely unaware of is that his scheming wife, her brother, Swaraj (Pramod Moutho), and her nephew Jai (Mohnish Behl) have plans to create conflict and discord between the young couple with the ultimate goal of destroying the family and snatching away their wealth. Will fate and circumstance conspire to separate the young couple?
