'Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu' is a investigated thriller following Raghavan, a veteran of the Tamil Nadu Police Department as he investigates a series of rapes and brutal murders including those of his boss's family. As the body count mounts, Raghavan expertly compiles clues and travels across continents to identify the serial killers. However, as soon as the culprits realize that they've been identified, they run and employ extremely evasive tactics while they continue their murderous legacy. Will Raghavan nab the criminals before more lives are lost?

Actresses Rohini and Andrea Jeremiah dubbed for the voices of female leads Jyothika and Kamalinee Mukherjee respectively in the movie.

In 2012, the director of this movie Menon was reportedly said he would be directing the film's Bollywood remake, but were later dismissed.

The film was dubbed in Telugu as "Raghavan" and in Hindi as "The Smart Hunt".
