Now for starters please don't go expecting a Bhajrangi Bhaijaan or a New York from director Kabir Khan's latest film "Phantom".The film is over all watchable thanks to the very suave Saif and pretty Kaif, who have tried to go beyond their dapper bond suits/low waist ed jeans and frilly doll frocks respectively(if only looks mattered). Sadly this G.I jOE meets Barbie nexus on a mission to vanquish terrorists behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks which is well intention d does not end up creating a lump in your throat or a tear in the eye.The only emotional foil comes in the form of grieving elderly nurse who agrees to be part of this mission as she is yet to come to terms with the tragic loss of her brutally massacred son.The locales are breathtaking and the action scenes are well canned. The film's cinematographer and the action choreographer are the true heroes of this venture. The music which plays in the background is well woven into the situation and does not jar..In fact I wished they at least rolled out the superbly infectious Afghani jalebi in the end credits which does not happen anyways.
The acting by the supporting cast of Sabyasachi Chakraborthy and particularly Mohd. Zeeshan Ayub who has been growing immensely with each film is noteworthy.Katrina looks a tad miscast for this role and I preferred her action avtaar in Kabirs' former film Ek tha tiger better.Saif Ali khan does not hing new here.He looks gr8 and is more than adequate after his earlier outings- the pathetic Humshakals and the more watchable Happy ending.Phantom is technically fine and if you a re a fan of action movies with a lil' bollywood masala..read mindless..you can surely watch this one..atleast once.Good looking cast, Stunning action , good camera work and a fabulous music score that becomes integral to the BGM are the major pluses.
