Set in Palasa, a town in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, the film tells the story of caste oppression. Dandasi narrates the story of Mohan Rao and his brother Ranga Rao, two carefree brothers from an artistic Dalit family who sing, dance and work as labourers in a cashewnut industry. Mohan Rao believes in fighting oppression with brawn while Ranga Rao believes in making the oppressor accountable. The story, set in 1978, tells us how they face caste discrimination, losing loved ones in the scuffle of regional politics and family factions.
