Filmmaker Elia Suleiman leaves Palestine, searching for a new life in the metropolises of Paris and New York. In a string of silent comedic set pieces composed with a spare and absurdist touch, the film draws subtle parallels between Palestine and the Western world. It gently skewers the clash of cultures through ES’s observant gaze that echoes the humour of Jacques Tati and Buster Keaton. It Must Be Heaven reflects on national identity and the intersection of cultures in a global world.
