Born as a boy in rural Bengal, Parimal realised he was a woman trapped in a man’s body. He seeks refuge at a transgender shelter in Kolkata, and becomes Puti, and starts singing at signals for money. 'She’ then meets the love of her life Madhu, a delivery boy with a Chinese restaurant who moonlights as a flautist in kirtans. As Madhu discovers more about Puti's situation, he wonders how he could feel attracted to a woman who has a male body. Their love blossoms as Puti dreams of raising money for a sex-change surgery, while facing the challenges set by a homophobic society.
