The most touching and entertaining animation movie of the year so far
on

"Minions", the prequel to "Despicable me" is one helluva film where yellow pill like one eyed creatures chattering gibberish and even amusing us with their endearing tactics which may seem tad silly make for paisa vasool entertainment. The cinema hall where I sat greeted the principal protagonists Kevin, Stuart and Bob, the Minions with loud cheers that are only reserved for the Superstar and Khans.Nice to see animation characters whip up a frenzy ans cast a spell.
Sandra Bullock voices Scarlett Overkill, A Femme fatale fashionista with vengeance. The chemistry between the Minions and her crackles on screen.Smaller characters like a sewer rat whom Bob befriends in the 2nd half and the ragged teddy bear he carries all through out linger in your minds. The bigger rounds of applause was however reserved for Mr.Despicable in a special appearence towards the end (whom the Minions take to as their master in the sequel).
Minions is such a charmer of a film, fun guaranteed at the cinemas and a complete family entertainer.Never before have I seen adults and children hooting and cheering animated characters with such enthusiasm and live wire energy.Highly recommended.

Miscellaneous
The ticket prices at the Tower of London were shown in decimal currency (and were too expensive for the time). The film is set in 1968, but the UK didn't adopt a decimal currency until 1971.

Miscellaneous
When the minions are walking through the sewer in London, one minion goes up the manhole of Abbey Road and gets trodden on by The Beatles. This was a tribute to their Abbey Road album which started in 1969 and the movie takes place in 1968. So this doesn't fit with the time setting of the movie.

Factual Mistake
When Kevin puts out the fuse leading to the TNT with water, he replaces a red American style Fire Hydrant onto a street in London. These style Fire Hydrants are not found in the U.K.

Factual Mistake
The "Queen of England" urges one of the minions not to get "mad". An older English person would never use the term "mad" in that context; she would say "angry" or "cross".
Trivia:
Director Pierre Coffin voices all 899 minions in this film.

The first teaser of this film is seen towards the ending credits of Despicable Me 2 (2013), where three minions are auditioning for this film. Although the audition features the same three minions, they have changed slightly since their first appearance. Bob's eye colour is more obvious in this film compared to the teaser, for instance.

The minions are heard saying thank you in different languages. For example, "terima kasih" is thank you in Bahasa Indonesian and "gracias" is thank you in Spanish, while "terima kasih" is the same phrase in Malay.

The film takes time in 1968 and 42 years B.G (Before Gru). If you add 42 years on 1968, it will be 2010, the year Gru and the Minions made their debut in Despicable Me (2010).

Bob has "Heterochromia iridum." His eyes are two different colors.

When Stuart is presented with the guitar at the end of the film, he plays the guitar solo of Van Halen's "Eruption". Given the movie was set in 1968 while Eruption was released in 1978, which means that Stuart played this nearly 10 years before Eddie Van Halen.

These three minions were designed to resemble Gru's daughters Margo, Agnes and Edith.

First movie in which Sandra Bullock portrays the villain.

In the first trailer, a minion picks a banana from under a rock. He then says: "C'est Banana, Miam Miam!". In French that translates into: "It's a Banana, Yummy!"

Minions is set in 1968. When the minions were trying to get into the Tower of London the entrance fees were displayed in decimal currency but England did not adopt a decimal currency till 1971. IN 1968 the currency was pounds, shillings and pence.

Kevin, Stuart and Bob visit 'Villain Con' which shares a lot in common with Comic Con. Indeed Scarlet Overkill's bombastic presentation takes place in 'Hall H', commonly used for some of Comic Con's biggest events.

Sandra Bullock wore minion inspired shoes to the premiere.

The British Royal Crown seen being worn by Bob during his 'coronation' scene can briefly be seen in Despicable Me when the Minions are all offering up treasures to help fund Gru's attempt to steal the moon.

When arriving in New York, a billboard is shown for Richard Nixon's 1968 Presidential Campaign with the slogan "Finally a name you can trust".

The Kevin in this film is a different Kevin to whom Gru acknowledges in the first "Despicable Me" film

The TV shows watched in the department store during their overnight stay were: The Saint, Bewitched & The Dating Game.

This film shows how the minions come cross their iconic dungarees, however they don't sport Grubs logo as they don't work for Gru at the time.

During the wolf / bedtime story scene, the background music is Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.

During the Super Villian Expo, Dr Nefario can be seen showing off his latest invention - the freeze ray gun - to a young Gru and his mother.

A young Gru appears at the end of the film. The Minions follow him and have a few "escapades" with him during the end credits.

There is a short musical scene after the credits where all the film's characters are shown until they are chased off by the T-Rex from the beginning of the movie.

There are references to Mozart's opera The Magic Flute scattered in the Minions' gibberish, in scenes associated with fire hydrants. Stuart calls the fire hydrant he falls for "Papagena" and later the tune Kevin whistles when he releases the spray from underneath a fire hydrant resembles the first line of "Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja" from the same opera.

The first teaser of this film is seen towards the ending credits of Despicable Me 2 (2013), where three minions are auditioning for this film.
