The destiny of a people lies in the heart of a boy. The amazing story of the fourteenth Dalai Lama
Trivia:
Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong, the Dalai Lama's grandnephew, plays the adult Dalai Lama, while Tencho Gyalpo, a niece of the Dalai Lama, appears as the Dalai Lama's mother.
Filming took place in Morocco, since Tibet was not possible.
Director Martin Scorsese, writer Melissa Mathison and her then husband Harrison Ford were added to the list of over 50 people banned from entering Tibet because of this film.
This film was dedicated to Martin Scorsese's mother Catherine Scorsese who had died during pre-production. Martin said "the Dalai Lama represents unconditional love, and to me my mother was the closest person with that kind of love".
