This evocative drama artistically depicts the ups and downs in the life of Nandagopan (Mohanlal), who is a respected dance teacher at the Kerala Kala Mandiram (alluding to the famed Kerala Kalamandalam repertory which performs Kerala's temple arts). However, his wife Sumangala (Parvathi) commits suicide, causing him to break down in shock and heart break, slowly deteriorating into an alcoholic and compulsive rule breaker.
Rubbing salt into his raw wounds, he becomes further agitated when he is suspected of having killed his wife, leading him to react in an uncontrolled manner, ultimately causing his suspension from his job for drunken misbehaviour. The new secretary of the institute Velayudhan (Nedumudi Venu) wants him to be sacked but his former reputation gives him a reprieve.
Slowly recovering from his loss, he delves back into his passion of teaching dance, and trains the talented student Malavika (Monisha) to perform in his ambitious composition of the Sita Kalayanam, but her jealous young lover Soman (Vineeth) poisons him. Will Nandagopan survive to regain his lost reputation and return to the heights of success once more?
