This chapter starts at a promising note, but fails to carry forward with that promise and dives in to cliches which fails to scare you at any point.

This serves as a prequel to the first Chapter. Hollywood has a thing for making prequels which re-creates the franchise infusing more interest in it, but sometimes in that attempt they take the franchise for granted and give you something which would spoil the image of it. Chapter:3 had a good story but lacked what it required the most, the HORROR factor.

The debutante director Leigh Whannell, who have been a successful actor and a screenwriter kinda didn’t do justice to the direction part. The irony is he’s the writer for the first two “Insidious Chapters”. This chapter sets a good premise for the previous movies but fails to hold it’s own.

Lin Shaye reprises her role as Elise Rainier, she did a good job. Stefanie Scott as Quinn Brenner was a commendable victim of the evil. The rest of the cast supported well to carry the film forward.

The prosthetic were really good which was well supported by fine make-up. The VFX was apt, did the job for the movie. The sound mixing was really good, but the movie totally depended on it, still it could not scare you enough. The cinematography was detailed with sharp editing.

Leigh tried his hand on directing which did not support him well, this chapter starts at a promising note, but fails to carry forward with that promise and dives in to cliches which fails to scare you at any point. The scary parts were so predictable that you end up telling yourself come on already jump out and TAADAA it’s there. It was a disappointment because the previous Chapters were scary as hell. But still every one have their threshold for getting scared may be mine was different, die hard horror buffs wouldn’t like it, but if you get scared easily then the sound effects will get you in the cinema.

Carl (portrayed by Steve Coulter, Elise's colleague) made a brief appearance.

Joey Graceffa will be featured in this film.

James Wan: Theater director for Stefanie Scott's character's audition.

Josh Lambert from the first two Insidious films is referenced in this film as a boy who Elise saved only to cause the old woman to hate her.

During the filming of the climax, director Leigh Whannell didn't want the other actors (including Lin Shaye and Angus Sampson) to meet the actress playing Lillith so they could have a more powerful reaction to her appearance. Actress Ele Keats didn't step into the set until the very last second.

The Lipstick-Face Demon from Insidious (2010) appeared briefly during the final scene.

When Elise comes face to face with the old woman for the first time, it takes place in the Lambert house and shows how she initially died.

A trailer for the film was released in March of 2015 and featured the song "Afraid of Nothing" by Sharon Van Etten. The filmmakers used the song without acquiring the rights to it. When Van Etten was notified by a fan on Twitter, the filmmakers were forced to pay her for illegally using her music.

James Wan was unavailable to return as director for the third installment due to his scheduling conflict with Furious Seven (2015).

Leigh Whannell's directorial debut.

This third installment makes several references to ghosts and demons from Insidious Chapter 1 and 2, such as Lipstick Face demon, The Bride in Black, and possibly the Long-Haired Fiend.

This is the first "Insidious" film not to be directed by James Wan.

This film is a prequel to the first Insidious film, set after Josh Lambert's childhood and before his son, Dalton's, haunting.

Stefanie Scott's first horror film.

Takes place in 2008. Chapters 1 and 2 take place in 2010.

Elise has a dog called Warren. It is based on real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, which appeared on James Wan's film The Conjuring (2013), played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.

The apartment building Quinn, Alex and Sean live in is the same apartment building used in "The Butterfly Room" starring Barbara Steele.

Tucker (Angus Sampson) is depicted as a cupcake-eating, avid fan of the 1980s. In addition to his Masters of the Universe (1987)'s t-shirt, his cut hair is a tribute to the famous Mr. T's Mohawk style.

Producer Jason Blum had said that they were already prepping the early stages for Insidious: Chapter 3 while promoting the second film.

YouTube star Joey Graceffa had filmed a role for this feature, in which he is described as the ghost of a "psychotic Vietnam veteran" by director and star Leigh Whannell.

In the Specs (Leigh Whannell)'s jacket, the logo of Casper (1949), the iconic friendly ghost, can be seen.

Actors Dermot Mulroney and Ele Keats had worked together in the film There Goes My Baby (1994), which was shot in 1991.
