Factual Mistake When Manny looks into the pond at his reflection right before meeting Ellie, a leaf lands in the water creating a ripple. Manny's reflection does not distort when the ripple goes through it.
Factual Mistake When Crash jumps onto Diego's shoulders, as he is reaching the ground, slow motion of the film reveals that part of his face disappears.
Factual Mistake When Scrat sniffs for his acorn, submerged under the ice, his saber teeth are clearly not modeled before he sinks them into the ice.
Miscellaneous Given the implied size of he bowl, water would not have drained out of the crack so quickly at the end.
Continuity When Sid first starts singing the Food song, Crash and Eddie are sitting on Ellie's tusks. In the next shot, they emerge from behind her ears.
Continuity When Scrat's finished fighting the piranhas, he gets his acorn out of the one on the bottom of the screen. Yet the one that actually swallowed the acorn was smacked off-screen to the right.
Character Error Condors don't eat acorns (but nobody ever told that to this condor).
Miscellaneous As with the first film, many of the animals shown did not live either in the same period or place.
Trivia:
Animation for the 'Ice Age: The Meltdown' took a relatively speedy eight months.
Some of the Scrat sequences were originally conceived for the opening sequence of this film, but were cut for time.
Improvements in fur simulation made since the first film required subtle changes in the original character models.
In designing Crash and Eddie, Peter de Sève looked up other small mammals, among them prairie dogs and meerkats.
The flashback in the movie was originally going to focus on Manny's conflict with his first family. However, Queen Latifah pitched the idea of the flashback in the film to center more on Ellie's origins.
