Before we get completely immersed in the raw and passionate romance of Romeo and Juliet who aren't ready to stop for anything, it becomes too late and we are already in the middle of the chaos created by the Hamlets, Macbeths & Shylocks around. From there It takes some time for Romeo, Juliet and the very us to come to the point where it all started. Now this makes the actual love story (plot), a superficial one.
For a mind that is willing to let go and get into a few hours of vibrant and colorful trance supported by brilliant performances, amazing choreo and a tasteful cinematography, it's indeed a magical journey. It could be a huge problem for those who are heavily disturbed by a plot that doesn't have much layers and few loopholes that get inside like a un-popped kernel
Coming to the performances, It is still a major shock for me that I am raving about Ranveer Singh, as being really not a fan of the actor (didn't like the performances much on his earlier flicks). So initially, I was a bit irritated (naturally) that I am going to watch someone whom I don't like pairing up with someone whom I so adore on-screen ;-) He simply nails it here.
Deepika Padukone has been stunning as always (as mentioned in a lot of reviews) and doesn't disappoint. Personally, it isn't a big surprise that she pulled it off really well. Frankly, a bit tired of "Oh! She could finally act!" comments. According to me, an actress shouldn't be judged and branded too much by the roles she plays (unless too stereotypical) and should be really noticed even if she tries to score with a minimum scope (Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Cocktail). Instead, I would say, "Oh! She has become more Versatile! ". With the rest of the cast, it's a bit difficult to portray my thoughts on Supriya Pathak, No words. Respect!!
Richa Chadda, Gulshan Devaiah and others are also too good and use the most of out of what is given.
On the whole, I give it a 3.5/5
