The Empire of Izmer has long been a divided land. The Mages - an elite group of magic-users - rule whilst the lowly commoners are powerless. Izmer's young Empress, Savina, wants equality and prosperity for all, but the evil Mage Profion is plotting to depose her and establish his own rule. The Empress possesses a scepter which controls Izmer's Golden Dragons. To challenge her rule, Profion must have the scepter and tricks the Council of Mages into believing Savina is unfit to hold it. Knowing that Profion will bring death and destruction to Izmer, Savina must find the legendary Rod of Savrille, a mythical rod that has the power to control Red Dragons, a species even mightier than the Gold. Enter two thieves, Ridley, and Snails, who unwittingly become instrumental in Savina's search for the Rod. Joined by a feisty Dwarf named Elwood, and helped by the Empress's expert tracker, the Elf Norda, the young heroes go in search of the Rod of Savrille. From the deadly maze of the Thieves Guild at Antius to an Elven Village, secret grotto and abandoned castles, Ridley and his band must outwit Profion's chief henchman Damodar at every turn while, back in Izmir, Profion prepares to do battle with the Empress. All depends on the Rod, but the outcome of the race to reach it first is far from certain, and Izmar's very survival hangs in the balance.

The game has just begun.
Adventure will never be the same.
Adventure hinges on more than just a throw of the dice.
This is no game.
Goofs:
Revealing Mistakes
The sound of the Dragon's Eye against the stones that make up Snail's grave-marker indicate that it's glass.

Revealing Mistakes
When Marina cast the magic rope around Snails and Ridley, the CGI rope goes clearly through Snails arm, as the rope doesn't follow Snail's body movement.

Revealing Mistakes
When Marina is on the floor reaching for the scroll in the Thieves Guild, Damodar appears to step on it just as she grabs it. His foot actually misses, so she holds it there and pretends it's stuck.

Revealing Mistakes
During the gold dragon attack on Profion's Tower, some of the fireball attack footage is used more than once. Sometimes the footage is flipped.

Revealing Mistakes
The heavy makeup on Norda's cheekbones is quite obvious in scenes where shadows shouldn't show, but do anyway, such as late at night in the forest.

Revealing Mistakes
At the entrance to the dungeon, Elwood is obviously pulled back by a cable when he touches the Wall Of Force. His waist bends and flies back faster than the rest of him, even though his whole body hit the wall at once.

Factual Mistake
The name of the Digital Compositor, Adam Buckner, is misspelled as "Adam Blickner" in the credits.

Crew/Equipment Visible
When Damodar is crouching to pull Snails out of the rug trap, the letter "R" is visible, in chalk, inside the right greave of his armor.

Continuity
When Ridley picks picks up the Elvish Sword during the fight with Damodar, it's not in the same position it was dropped in.

Continuity
Damodar's lipstick disappears during his sword fight with Ridley.

Continuity
When the party is standing outside the cave, and Ridley enters the cave, the others do the same motions twice.

Continuity
When Ridley enters the dungeon to rescue Marina, he closes at least 2 doors behind him, including Marina's cell door. When they leave, all the doors are open.

Continuity
When Ridley is in the corridor of fire, he sees the oval-shaped exit closing quickly, and pauses to prepare to jump through it. When he looks again, the exit is larger than it was earlier.

Continuity
At the Tree of Life, the amount and position of the dirt on Marina's face changes between shots.

Continuity
At least 3 times, the band of heroes walk off and leave the map behind them, yet they have it in the next scene.

Continuity
When Ridley is swinging on the axes in Room 1 in the Thieves' Guild Maze, his scabbard is visibly empty as it flops around. When he gets to Room 2, he pulls out his sword from it.

Continuity
When Damodar cuts Marina's neck, the size and shape of the cut change between shots.

Continuity
When Ridley is in the dungeon, he falls down the chute and drops his lantern. He doesn't have it in the treasure room, but he has it when he emerges from the dungeon.

Continuity
Marina fumbles with a magic dust bag and manages to throw some at Halvarth. As Marina throws the dust, she drops the bag to the ground and runs to Ridley's side. When she reaches Ridley, and Halvarth is getting up again, the magic dust bag is with her again.

Continuity
As Ridley consults the map before entering the dragon's cave, everyone else changes position between shots.

Continuity
The amount of muck on Snails changes several times, when outside the castle.

Continuity
Norda's armour changes sizes and shape from scene to scene.

Continuity
When Ridley leaves the dungeon, his lantern is alternately open and closed between shots.

Continuity
Elwood's beard changes from dark red to a much lighter reddish orange by the end of the movie.

Continuity
The size/colour/shape of Ridley's wound changes between shots while he talks with Marina at the Tree Of Life.

Audio/Video Mismatch
Often, when chanting spells, Profion's lips fail to remotely match the words being chanted.
Trivia:
Marlon Wayans was also starring in Requiem for a Dream (2000) while this film was shooting. His scenes were shot in a few weeks.

The trailers for this film listed none of the cast, not even Jeremy Irons.

Courtney Solomon only intended to produce the film originally. However, TSR head Lorraine Williams vetoed every one of his choices (one of which was Francis Ford Coppola) and forced Solomon to direct the film since he held the rights.

During the fight with the large guard, before the scene with Snails and Damodar, Justin Whalin's head split open when he was thrown into the stone wall.

Director Courtney Solomon's first film. He acquired the exclusive rights from TSR (Tactical Studies Rules) in 1990, when he was 19. It took 10 years to raise the funds to make the film.

When asked why he did this film, Jeremy Irons replied, "Are you kidding? I'd just bought a castle, I had to pay for it somehow!"
