During a scene in which their characters slap each other (Kate Hudson) accidentally hit (Anne Hathaway) straight in the face very hard. The script was finished just before the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

Originally, the film was conceived as a teen comedy. Emma Roberts was set to star as Liv and Nikki Reed as Emma. It was later envisioned as a comedy for young adults with Kate Hudson as Liv and Anne Hathaway as Emma.

During the reception, there is a shot involving a complicated series of dance steps in front of the camera. After many failed attempts, a dance instructor who happened to be an extra asked to teach the actors how to perform the maneuver correctly.

Kate Hudson's first producing credit on a feature film.

Several wives and girlfriends of current Red Sox players were extras in the wedding shower scene.
