People don't work in the small Scottish town of Forres, spending their days at the pub. One day, the stranger Bodkin arrives in the town looking for a place to hide and lay low, looking for a fresh start and a fair chance. Having secured a decent job, a group of caring (if rough-around-the-edges) friends, and a love interest, the stranger seems on the verge of settling down. However, his dark and questionable past inevitably catches up to him.
