Detective Frank Webber’s (John Longden) girlfriend Alice White (Anny Ondra) is invited by an artist to visit his studio. The man tries to rape Alice and while trying to defend herself she kills him. A criminal finds the lady’s glove from the crime scene and keeps it in order to blackmail her. Frank meanwhile, is assigned to investigate the case.Hailed both critically and commercially when released, Blackmail is referred to as Europe’s first ‘talkie’ also. However, a silent version of the film was also released in theatres not equipped for sound.
