"Birth of a Pillow" is a film with no dialogue portraying personal responses to sexuality in present-day India. At the juncture of external stimulus, sociocultural conditioning, and personal drive lies the deepest human cores of fear, guilt, loneliness, power, weakness, pain, and denial. At turns poignant, disturbing, surreal and darkly satirical, "Birth of a Pillow" traces through a series of vignettes what might happen to the psyche when the drive of human desire comes crashing against the wall of one's cultural imprint. Using condoms, a man and a woman separately explore their loneliness; a priest collapses in guilt from an attractive neighbor; a sculptress explores power; a schoolgirl experiences her budding sexual appetite; a man's dark relationship with a doll; a man and a bed; and a married couple make love alone, then happily await the arrival of the new child.
