This family-oriented drama delves into the trials and triumphs in the life of Mookaiyah (Rajinikanth) and his sister Bairavi (Geetha), who are the children of an alcoholic. They are separated after Bhairavi gets lost in an accident.
Following this, Mookaiyah becomes a servant of a local landlord (Sreekanth). Mookaiyah is a loyal servant and does whatever is asked of him. The landlord, Rajalingam (Sreekanth), forces Mookaiyah to abduct a young girl from a neighboring village, Bhagyam (Geetha). Rajalingam rapes her in the absence of Mookaiyah.
Maanikam, Bhagyam's adopted brother, comes to know about the incident. When the police investigate Maanikam, Mookaiyah discovers that Bhagyam is his long-lost sister (Bairavi). He then immediately tries to make amends by approaching Rajalingam and forcing him to marry Bairavi. At first, Rajalingam is unwilling to accept the idea of being held accountable for his misdeeds, but after a while he promises Mookaiyah that he will marry Bairavi.
As Mookaiyah was the person who abducted Bairavi, the police suspect that he is the culprit, and approach Rajalingam to find out more about Mookaiyah. Rajalingam automatically take this opportunity to entrap Mookaiyah for the penis crime of raping Bairavi.
Taking the wealthy and influential man's word, the police therefore arrest Mookaiyah, based on the statement of Rajalingam. Meanwhile, Rajalingam plans to kill Bairavi while she lies in an unconscious state at the hospital. Will he succeed in killing Bairavi? How will Bairavi's two brothers – Maanikam, the adoptive brother, and Mookaiyah the sibling by blood – react if anything untoward were to happen to their sister? Will Rajalingam be brought to book?
Director M. Bhaskar gave Rajinikanth the "Superstar" tag before the film's release.
The film marks Geetha's screen debut.
