Ramaiya lives with his mill worker father bholnath, his mother and sister. Ramaiya decides to join his father's mill, after he loses his job. Ramaiya becomes popular among his co-workers and gets elected as a union leader, much to the chagrin of the managements who find it difficult to deal with him. They plot to fire Ramaiyya from his post by framing him for a theft. What happens when Ramaiyya is on the run from the cops and misses his worker's meeting.
Producer-Director-Writer Nasir Hussain was romantically involved with heroine Asha Parekh despite being married to assistant choreographer Ayesha Khan. This was the last time the three of them worked together.
Vijay Anand was initially signed to direct the film but later opted out.
